Friends of mine got married this past December. The wedding was held at Linganore Winercellars in Mt. Airy, MD, a very beautiful venue. They are starting their married life in Nashville, TN because of his job placement. I wanted to give them something they could have in their new house to remind them of home, Maryland, as well as where their journey is starting. Hence I came up with these watercolor skylines pictures. A piece of both of their homes.
For my first experience of working with watercolor, I think they turned out magnificent. The key to the success was using Art Masking fluid. It is a liquid that you brush on to the parts of your paper that you do not what the watercolor to apply to. It dries clear and then when you are done painting it peels right off like a snake shedding its skin. It would as an amazing stencil for the lettering and skyline outline.
I will definitely have to make myself a Baltimore one!
